Article 29 governs how Member States notify the Commission of bodies they wish to designate as 'notified bodies' authorised to perform third-party conformity assessment under Annex VII. Designations are scope-specific: a notified body designated for biometrics is not authorised to assess credit-scoring systems. The Commission maintains the public NANDO database of designated bodies. Choosing a notified body that is NOT designated for your specific Annex III category invalidates the assessment and the CE marking.
What you must do
- → Use only notified bodies listed in NANDO and designated for your specific Annex III category.
- → Verify the designation scope before signing any assessment contract.
