Measures for providers and deployers, in particular SMEs, including start-ups
View on EUR-LexArticle 62 instructs Member States to give SMEs and start-ups priority access to AI regulatory sandboxes, awareness-raising and training, dedicated communication channels with authorities, and reduced fees for conformity assessment proportionate to size and market stage. The intent is to ensure the AI Act does not become a barrier to entry. Most SMEs are unaware these provisions exist.
What you must do
- → Confirm SME status under the EU definition (<250 staff, ≤€50M turnover).
- → Apply for sandbox access and reduced fees where eligible.
- → Document reliance on Art. 62 measures in your compliance file.
