Compliance with the requirements

View on EUR-Lex
Plain-English explainer

Article 8 is the umbrella obligation: every high-risk AI system must comply with the substantive requirements in Articles 9 to 15. It also sets the proportionality principle — measures must take into account the intended purpose, the generally acknowledged state of the art, and the risk management system. This is the hook auditors and notified bodies use when an individual measure looks formally compliant but isn't fit for the system's actual context.

What you must do

  • Treat Art. 9–15 as a single integrated package, not a list of independent boxes.
  • Be ready to justify why your measures are proportionate to the system's specific risk profile.
